2017 MUST-HAVE Beauty Products

So a new year is here…

No seriously, Pantone has named the color of the year as nature’s own neutral – GREENERY!

And the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, explains:

“Greenery burst forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”

What better way to rejuvenate than to start a new year with clean beauty products made with high-quality ingredients derived from nature?

According to some economists, in the past 12 months the organic health and beauty industry has seen a growth of about 20 percent.

Have you attributed to that number? Or perhaps you are still using the same crusty, chemical-ridden beauty and skincare products from years passed?  If you’re with the latter, maybe it’s time to start fresh, maybe it’s time to re-think what you keep in your bathroom vanity.

Now don’t get me wrong, if we are being 100% frank here, I still have a bittersweet relationship with my luxe-brand makeup items… but, with living in BALANCE, I’ve been trying to transition to switching my beauty products and skincare regiment as CLEAN as possible!

And it’s time to share with you the best of those! The ABSOLUTE MUST-HAVES for the new year! All of these items I personally use in my daily life and have been for quite some time now. I can attest to their quality and ability to improve certain aspects of overall beauty and wellness.

1.  Dot & Bo Glass Water Bottle with Stopper

sold out, but other – here.)

Okay, water is an obvious must, and I’m sure that you’ve heard that glass instead of plastic is the way to go.  As there’s many reasons as to why: plastic bottles are not sustainable – they are not biodegradable, or take at least thousands of years to fully decompose. But besides their heavy carbon footprint, they can also cause health issues.  Most plastic water bottles are laced with chemicals that can seep in to the water itself and when consumed, can cause possible endocrine disruptions + lead to more health consequences down the line.

In nixing plastic bottled water, you are not only living healthier, but are also saving money while contributing to the movement for global sustainability. Choose glass, it’s an all natural choice, made up of sustainable/raw materials, + is 100% recyclable being reused an endless amount of times.

2.  FATCO Stank Stop® Deodorant

A few years ago when I initially made the switch to deodorant from antiperspirant, there was not many aluminum-free options on the market that were ACTUALLY effective.

Now most use these terms, “antiperspirant” and “deodorant” interchangeably, but they actually are not the same. Antiperspirants prevent sweating, whereas deodorants allow perspiration, but not odor. Once you learn the difference, it seems to make more sense to go with a more natural process (deodorizing, instead of blocking a natural body process – sweating). PLUS, antiperspirants contain Aluminum, which is a neurotoxin that has been linked to health problems such as breast cancer, Alzheimer’s, kidney problems, and more.

FATCO’s Stank Stop® deodorants combine the antibacterial properties of organic coconut oil, with the odor-neutralizing powers of Aluminum-free baking soda to create all-natural, Paleo-certified deodorant. Remarkably, it also contains grass-fed tallow and Shea butter to moisturize the pits… I was shocked by this at first, but initially fell in love after just my first day of using. It’s going to be my 2017 go-to deodorant, and that says a lot (I’ve tested, and TOSSED, tons of other brands).

3.  Herbivore Botanicals ‘Coco Rose’ Coconut Oil Body Polish

BALANCEDLIFEALOHA.comhere or here.)

I AM OBSESSSSSED with exfoliating.  Since I started exfoliating DAILY, my skin’s texture has changed remarkably. But, the key to success here is to not be too harsh, making sure to stay hydrated, and skin moisturized. So delicate scrubs are the go-to’s for this practice. Herbivore Botanical‘s Body Polish is super moisturizing but still effectively exfoliates the skin. The key ingredients in this particular one are virgin coconut oil and Moroccan rose.

Their brand product MO includes the following:

Truly Natural. Everything we create contains top all-natural ingredients, with an emphasis on ingredients that are plant-based, organic, and food-grade. Each ingredient is included for a therapeutic reason. No animal testing is conducted on our products or ingredients. All of our oils are cold-pressed or steam distilled. These are the finest extraction methods available and lead to premium quality oils. All products are made in small batches in the USA.

4.  Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal

You can read all about WHY Konjac sponges are seriously THE BEST (imho) for cleansing, and why I made this switch over a year and a half ago – here. I have several favorites, but have been loving this Boscia brand one most recently, because of the black bamboo charcoal that aids in effortless toxin clean-up!! Regardless of which brand you choose, Konjac sponges are a definite MUST.

5.  Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask

Sheet masks are all the rage right now. Although my ABSOLUTE favorite detoxing/cleansing mask (which is not a sheet mask) will forever be the Aztec Healing Clay (see No. 7 below), I’ve also been incorporating hydrating sheet masks in to my skincare routine at night; and along side night creams, they are remarkably renewing. These Tatcha masks are my current favorite and beyond transformative.  They combine their proprietary red algae mix with a “HADASEI-3™” Bioactive Complex which creates a silken serum which infuses the skin with powerful moisturizing actives that results in some serious smooth and glowing skin.

According to Tatchathese masks are one-of-a-kind, stating that,

The mask’s serum delivers hydration so efficiently that the face becomes taut with replenishing moisture. The unique coconut-derived biocellulose mask, developed originally to speed healing for burn victims, forms an occlusive layer on the skin that enables 53% deeper penetration vs. paper masks.

6.  Eco Tan Cacao Firming Mousse

Hands-down my favorite, non-toxic sunless tanner on the market right now. It’s made with natural and organic ingredients certified by the OFC under Australian Government Organic & Bio-Dynamic standards and requirements.  The ingredients include aloe vera, cacao, coffee, blood orange, ginger, and mandarin.  Being free from synthetic fragrances, artificial orange dyes, parabens, and GMOs, it allows a beautiful deep bronze tan, yet without that lingering bitter smell that other tanners leave behind. Also because of the unique blend of powerhouse natural ingredients, it can aid in reducing the appearance of cellulite and promote smoother skin.

7.  Natural Clay for Facial Masks

I started using natural clays for DIY ultra-transformative facials over two years ago.  Read more about my favorite in my article – here.

8.  Davids Premium Natural Toothpaste (Fluoride-Free)

This toothpaste is hands down the must-have product that I am MOST excited about this year.  Although I have been using it for several months now, I’m still just as giddy as I was the first week I was testing it out.  See, when I switched to aluminum-free deodorant years ago, I also made the switch to fluoride-free toothpaste.  I was using the same brand though, since that initial time, but had tested and TOSSED countless others.  I started to feel that the one I was still using was just not working for me any longer, and I was continually seeking better. Davids was my best find by far. I have told my husband numerous times, that my teeth have never felt better, and my gums – so refreshed.

Made in the United States, this natural toothpaste is the product of extensive research and premium ingredients sourced in the U.S. It safely and effectively fights against plaque, whitens teeth, and freshens breath. It’s sulfate-free, fluoride-free, contains no artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors, or preservatives, also cruelty-free, and SUSTAINABLE (recyclable metal tube).  Heck, even the outside carton is FSC-certified (derived from responsible foresting), and created by 100% wind energy.

ITS SIMPLY THE BEST. And NO, I am not paid to say this. I found this brand on my own, and I seriously love it. I tell everyone I know that if they do anything “green” this year, at least make the switch to Davids…. I promise that everyone who already has, so far is JUST AS OBSESSED as I am.  And that’s also why I contacted the founder to ask if they would be able to create some type of discount for the rest of you, my readers (that’s how serious I am about wanting you to try it!), and they are offering a 10% off any online order for the month of January (’17)!! And again, no, I am not paid to share this, nor will I make a commission – just try it, okay! – BUY IT HERE.

9.  Organic Coconut Oil

BALANCEDLIFEALOHA.comhere or here.)

I have been using organic coconut oil as my all around go-to product for years now. I use it as my nightly after-shower body lotion, foot soak, hair mask, make-up remover, plus so much more.  To read a full article about this powerhouse, go – here.

10.  Vital Proteins Pasture-Raised, Grass-Fed Collagen Peptides

I’ve seen various media outlets publishing articles naming COLLAGEN as one of 2017’s rising beauty trends, and this excites me beyond belief!  I’ve been seeking collagen for my overall health for years now. It’s part of the reason that I routinely make weekly bone broths and drink them daily – for the gelatin, collagen, and trace minerals. Because collagen cannot be absorbed topically to the skin, it has to be digested. Finding Vital Proteins was the other extremely exciting find of my year. You can read my full review and reasons why – here. But in short,

Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides are sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised bovine hides to ensure a natural, high quality, and sustainable source of this ancient nutrient. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body ensuring the health and vitality of your skin, hair, tendon, cartilage, bones, and joints. These natural peptides are highly bio-available, digestible and soluble in cold or hot liquids.

Cheers to a GREEN New Year & Happy Cleansing!

x. Heather
